Wedding band cleaning 101
June 14, 2023 • 3 min read
A symbol of your love and commitment, your wedding ring is one of the most cherished accessories you’ll ever own. Therefore, you should take care of it and maintain it so it holds the same sparkle it once did when you first exchanged vows.
For all the information you need to know about keeping your wedding ring clean, check out our tips below.
Clean your ring often
This goes without saying, but you should frequently clean your wedding band. Your wedding ring should be cleaned like an engagement ring to maintain its quality and appearance. Not only this but as a breeding ground for bacteria, regular cleaning will prevent discolouration and scratching.
As a rule of thumb, you should get your ring cleaned twice a year at least. This arranges for it to be cleaned after a substantial build-up of dirt. However, your ring may require additional cleaning. If you are prone to getting your wedding ring dirty or have a job that doesn’t always have you in the cleanest environment, regular cleaning may be needed to help keep that sparkle.
You can do this by bringing your ring to a jeweller for professional cleaning or doing a safe and simple DIY at-home clean. For the best results, trust a jeweller.
Get a clean from the professionals
For a proper and efficient cleaning, bringing your ring to the professionals is recommended. This means taking your ring to a jeweller. A jeweller will have the appropriate tools to thoroughly clean your ring from oils and debris.
While this is important for all wedding rings, it is even more important for diamond wedding bands. Not only will we give plain bands a clean, but for bands with stones, we will give this a quality clean so your stones retain their brilliance.
Taking your ring for a clean at a jewellery store may come with a fee. Midas Jewellery offers an annual complimentary cleaning service for all rings bought from Midas Jewellery. This way, you know you are getting your ring appropriately cleaned by the professionals you bought it from.
Give a proper clean at home
Looking for a quick clean at home? While it won’t be at the same standards as a professional jeweller’s, there is a DIY home clean you can do to get rid of noticeable grime and dirt. The best way is to soak your ring in a solution of dishwashing soap and warm water.
First, make the solution by adding a few squirts of dishwashing soap to a bowl of warm water. Soak your wedding ring in the bowl for 20 to 40 minutes. After soaking, take a very soft toothbrush and gently rub any stones. Once done, run it through warm water and rinse properly.
If needed, you may need to repeat the process. Always plug in the sink before running your ring under the water to avoid any incidents.
